Style Review: Finger Coils/Twists
First I would like to say I will be updating with what I’ve been doing with my hair but I wanted to get this Style Review done while it’s fresh! This is also my 1st style since my BC.
What I Used:
Rat-tail comb
Water bottle
Hair Clips
Shea-Olive Oil Mix
Eco Styler Gel (Olive Oil)
YouTube Video from RimBlu4 (http://tinyurl.com/398uuuk)
What I Did:
First, I started off by co-washing my natural hair with Tresemme’s Flawless Curls Conditioner. This was I quick pick-up and I used it the whole month of June while I was only co-washing. I didn’t really focus on the ingredients (not at the stage yet) but I could tell it softened my hair and it smells pretty nice too.
Next, I rubbed a little bit of my Shea-Olive Oil mix that I made up the day before, on my lightly towel-dried hair for a little moisture.
Last but not least, I parted rows with my rat-tail comb (didn’t used it to actually create the twist) and started twisting sections of hair with my thumb and index fingers that were dabbed with Eco Styler Gel. Not too much though. As I went on, I found it easier to twist with both hands. When I got to the dryer parts I misted with water from my water bottle. As I started on the back, I found it a little easier to hold my hair done with the hair a clip, seeing as though I couldn’t see what was going on back there.
What I think:
I think I like this style. It gives me some diversity from my everyday Wash-N-Go which is what I was looking for. The style itself is easy to do, it’s just soooo time consuming. The Eco Styler Gel seems like it’s a good hold so I’m hoping the style will last throughout the week. Not really for the hard-n-crunchy so maybe next time I try this style I will mix the gel with some oil or shea butter to soften it up. Last night I lightly tied it with a scarf and topped it off with a satin cap. I’m sure both are not necessary but scarves never stay on my head so I wanted to insure that it did.
This morning I got up and rubbed some of my Shea-Olive Oil mix on it for a nice shine. Still amazes me how easily this stuff melts down.
I plan to un-coil it at the end of the week and see what it looks like. Will post some of pics of that as well.
As always,
Thanks for letting me share.

~ My BC ~
“No, No, No! I’m not ready.” “Well what you waiting for?” she said. “I don’t know” was definitely not a good answer as I sat in my stylist chair with dried ends and about 25% of new growth. She offered to cut off ALL my hair and I just didn’t think I was ready so I sat there listening to her and my mother say “Go ahead and do it” lol. I know it wasn’t in the best looking shape but I still thought I was doing ok lol. So I broke down and asked her how much was she going to cut and she just said enough. Don’t get my wrong, I trust my stylist and she had been taking care of my hair for a while…until I stopped going back in October. I just thought I could handle transitioning to natural, which I had been thinking about doing for a while, on my own. I was just tired of getting relaxers with the burning of the scalp and all that. Just ready to get to know MY hair.
So she went to work and honestly, it didn’t feel (or look) half as bad as I thought. She cut it all the way down with the scissors then shaped my back & sides up, shampooed me, put some Silky Milk setting lotion on me, and set me under the dryer for a few. I’ll admit I thought it was cute (along with all the spectators in the shop) but I was a little nervous for like an hour. What do I do with it??? Am I going to have to wear big hoop earrings all the time??? What are people going to think??? Then I started liking it (and realized how convenient it would be) and got over it lol. I guess just like with any kind of change or anything new we try there’s going to be that nervousness.
That was March 27th so it’s been almost 4 weeks. She has moved to a shop a little further away so I can’t see her on a regular basis like I would like. So last week I rediscovered a shop I went to a few years back for a cut. I remember that they had a barber in there so I went to him to shape me up. Turned out pretty good so I’ll be going back. Next time I’ll just have to suggest to him to do his cutting without picking it out because not all of my hair shrinks back up the same. Eventually I will grow it out (naturally) but for the summer months I have decided to keep it short & sweet…and neat ;-).
Now to get a little deeper lol. I feel like since cutting my hair, I’ve become a little more free. I never would have pictured myself doing something so random and brave but it feels good (And I think I wear it well too). To me, it shows how much I have grown and matured from say…a few years ago. I know by doing so I encouraged (at least) one person to go through with their BC ;-).
Loving my TWA. My next mission is to find the best products (shampoos, conditioners, moisturizers, curl enhancers) for my hair…without becoming a product junkie lol.
Thanks for letting me share.
